I Heart Google

From now on, when people ask me where my kids go to school, I will not answer, as I usually do, “They’re homeschooled.” I’m going to start saying, “They’re homeschoogled” instead. Just to see what kind of reaction I get. Ever since I whisked all our baskets of books down to the basement to make the house Extra Special Nice for showing to potential buyers, the kids and I have relied on these here internets more than ever. Scary new bug on the porch? Google it. Something new to do with chicken breasts? Google it. Want to see the view from the water taxi daddy rode on last night? (Everybody chime in:) Google it.

Remember when we used to look up synonyms in actual books? When’s the last time you opened a paper thesaurus?

Homeschoogle. I like it.

  1. Yeah, great! Can we think of a computer term for socialization, too. “Oh, yes, he gets a “google load” of socialization or “Socialization? Why he gets ‘googles’ of it.”

  2. I just read an article out of the UK where the British government is trying to figure out how to keep up with the internet cheaters. Seems as though the children are using the internet search engines and just plagarizing people. They are in a quandry though, because they are also considering any reference to right and wrong. So if there’s no right and wrong, is it really cheating?
    Moral relativism at it’s finest.

  3. Homeschoogle! That is just too funny–thanks for giving me a laugh first thing in the a.m.! By the way, you should claim legal rights to that term if it doesn’t overlap any Google rights…

  4. Just call us Itchy and Scratchy!

    In the past few days:
-my oldest has broken out in an itchy rash on her face. We weren’t sure what it was at first, but we figured out she is reacting to the face paint she had put on over the weekend at the local county fair. She now has a rash qu…

  5. i LOVE the new word you have coined! Quick! Write it on a piece of paper and mail it to yourself!! 🙂
I was thinking about you guys yesterday – I have “inherited” all of these unidentified plants in my new backyard and I was thinking that it would be sooo nice to sic your brood on them!
Also funny enough, I found a box full of books in the garage — and among them was a very old webster’s pocket dictionary and thesaurus. ACTUALLY pocket size! Meant to be slipped in the inside pocket of a blazer it seems. So cool!

  6. Have you tried googling “homeschoogle” again? It now shows up (this post, of course). Doesn’t that make it a real word? 🙂

  7. Freeschooling

Not to be confused with my previous fridgeschooling. Several homeschoolers have been talking about downsizing, using what they have, and homeschooling with little money output. (I know more of you were talking about this, but in my fever induced haze …

  8. LOL at the screenshot. How clever!!! And just what I needed at 4 in the morning (packing). I agree with Rhonda:D

  9. I am amazed at how much everything has changed because of the internet, it is so easy and fast now to research topics. Education for my kids is so very different than what I experienced. I am glad for all the helps that make homeschooling easier. (renewing my 50 library books online..now how can that get any better?!)
    I am enjoying your blog,
    blessings, Jenny in Ca
