I have eaten
the toast
that you left on
the counter
and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast
Forgive me
it was delicious
so buttery
and so warm
(with apologies to William Carlos Williams)
(but not to my husband)

That’s too funny! When I read the opening lines I was thinking “Wait….just a minute..I’ve heard this…”
Cute. Hubby will just have to make more…
That’s pretty good. Very atmospheric!
I was just thinking of getting my 6 yo twins to memorize this poem, when my daughter (one of the twins) said “That’s a weird poem. Why does he have to say he ate some plums? And why did they keep them in the fridge?” So we went with some Walter de la Mere instead…
Oh, I love that one. And I don’t think you should apologize … rather, it’s an homage. 🙂
