…for those of you who are reading and commenting at this blog instead of the WordPress one. Believe it or not, I’m still trying to sort out the bloggy glitches that sprang up in August and caused me to start cross-posting at this (Typepad) site again.
If you are reading here at Typepad (and if you’re seeing this post, it means you are reading the Typepad blog, because I’m not posting it on the WordPress one), do you do so because:
…you like the Typepad site better than the WordPress one? (And if so, why? Faster page load?)
…when you click through from your feed reader to leave a comment, this is where you land? (And if so, any idea which feed you’re subscribed to? Does the feed URL have "feedburner" in it?)
…you never changed your bookmark when I switched to WordPress last March?
…you switched back here because you couldn’t access the WordPress site anymore?
…another reason?
Thanks for your input. I’m grappling with whether it’s a bad idea to have my comments split between two blog sites, and should I just link to new (WordPress) posts here, or do enough people find the WordPress site a pain that it’s worth my continuing to double-post each new entry both here and over there.
I still can’t access your WordPress site, so I just read here. Thanks for taking the trouble for double posting, I know that it can be a pain.
this is where my bloglines takes me.
i just never changed by bookmark. lazy me
i just never changed by bookmark. lazy me
I had my own reader issues and got blogs mixed up when switching. I’ve changed it to wordpress.
I put this site back in my Bloglines feeds during the worst of the WordPress hiccups. Now I usually see a new post twice. I don’t always pay attention to which of the two sites I’m reading.
This is where my Google Reader takes me.
I plain like typepad better than wordpress…….
My wife and I use wordpress and love it. I’d be willing to help you work out your glitches with wordpress to the best of my ability:) I found you searching for homeschooling blogs and this blog came up first.
My wife uses wordpress @ http://thehappyhousewife.com because we can find plugins to do just about anything and its been easy to maintain the blog.
Please contact me if you’d like some help.
Thanks for being a voice for homeschooling out here.
David
Hi, I use bloglines and never updated when you switched over because I was lazy and slightly confused and seemed to still be getting content just fine via bloglines. I clicked through and landed here (typepad). that’s about all i know. good luck!
Thanks for the feedback, everyone. (And keep it coming!)
Melissa H, what you wrote makes sense—you must be subbed to my Feedburner feed. When I switched to WordPress, I redirected the feed to that blog, so you would have been getting the new (WP) posts automatically.
The part that doesn’t make sense–but you’re not the only one this is happening too–is that starting a month or two ago, some (but only some) Feedburner subscribers who click through to leave a comment began finding themselves here at Typepad instead of at the WordPress site. I have no idea how/why that is happening. But it’s good for me to know that it is still occurring for some readers.
Toni, you must be one of the people whose IP address was suddenly and inexplicably blocked from the WP site in August. I’ll have my web host unblock you, now that I know. We still don’t know why that started happening (but it was the beginning of my bloggity woes).
Kmom, you might be picking up my “old” feed (the atom or rss feed from Typepad) rather than my Feedburner feed. Or you could be in Melissa H’s category, seeing the Feedburner feed but winding up here when you click through. Either way, I’m glad you’re making it over here!
Maria, I really appreciate that feedback too–I’ve heard from at least one other reader who prefers the design/readability of this site over the WP one. Which is, in a way, a big compliment to me, since I designed this one myself (if you can call it a design, LOL) and the WP design is something I paid a professional to do.
One of the things I’m trying to figure out is whether the WP design, purty as it is, needs to be simplified, de-belled and whistled a bit, to make sure it’s not causing frustrating page-load issues for readers. I appreciate what David wrote about liking WP’s plugins and flexibility, though–certainly I am seeing that WP communicates better with search engines.
Thanks, btw, David, for your very kind offer of help. My web host’s tech support person (who was also the WP site’s designer) has tried to figure out what is behind the page loading problems, but it seems to be a conflict between the server’s firewall and certain readers’ IP addresses. At least, that is one of the problems. We’re still looking at what else could be mucking things up.
Thank you, all, for your help and insight!
I still have both sites in my feed reader, but for some reason when I go to the WP site, it doesn’t show me your latest posts, it is always behind, even when I get a post in the feed reader. Like right now, the most recent post at the WP site is the one from the 26th about the Next Shelf Up, and here the most recent one is about Jim Weiss. Also, this one is alphabetically higher in my list, consequently I generally read it first and click over to here to comment 🙂
Thank-you so much for unblocking my IP address I can now access your WP site, but just like Gretchen it only goes as far as the 26th. I have tried going to the comments and clicking through to the most recent entries but I only get as far as the 27th and no further. I just thought you would like to know. Have a good day.
