Actually, it was quite easy. As it happens, ClubMom went with the first name I suggested. I am delighted to announce that my new MomBlog, to be launched very soon, will be called The Lilting House, a phrase I borrowed from…oh, but why don’t I let you guess! Anyone know? Hint: I’ll reveal the answer on Poetry Friday. (And no fair Googling.)
And while I’m asking questions, here’s another: I’d love your input, dear readers, on what brings you to Bonny Glen (and therefore what you might like to see at The Lilting House also). What is here that’s worth your valuable time? Please don’t think I’m fishing for compliments…I’m just thinking about what direction I’m going to go with the new blog and am wondering what sorts of things my readers are most interested in. How to live a living-books life? Book reviews? Curriculum recommendations? Time-sucking internet links? Or is it the photos of the backs of my children’s heads? I know! It’s the background, isn’t it, the gorgeously rich colors of the woolen fabric. Which, yes, I did weave myself a hundred years ago and thank you very much for asking. (And yes, I would be willing to sell the loom upon which it was woven, assuming I can find it under all that dust.)

Well, the first thing to draw me in was the humor. That usually gets my attention in any area of life. But I stayed for the book reviews as well as the “living-books” lifestyle. While I don’t homeschool (the kinder attend our fabulous parish school), I am a lover of books raising the same, and am always on the look out for recommendations and guidance from like-minded intelligent folk such as yourself. So thank you!

I come because you write well, and you write about things that interest me (homeschooling! family life!). I come because I like to share tidbits with my daughters, who are enthralled by the Martha books, and fascinated that the author of those books is a real live homeschooling mom with a new baby. I like to read the sidebar to see what books you and your family are reading (always a thrill to see we’re reading some of the same things as another family).
I stop by daily for several reasons, but the main ones are for a peek into your homeschooling day and the books lists. I do love children’s books. 🙂

I’m interested in discovering the “Real Learning” lifestyle. Like Cay, I agree with all the above, especially Helen’s comment about joy.
I’ve also stolen some of your posts for a quick writing lesson for my older girls–okay not a lesson, but a sample of good writing. Interested in giving classes? Enlightening others on how to write so beautifully? Or is that a God-given gift that we can only envy?

I love the booklists and the literature posts. They have really helped me plan out reading lists for my kids. I also love hearing about Wonderboy. Hearing about another mom who is homeschooling a child with special needs helps lighten my load.
I like the name. I had an idea of what it was and looked it up (in a book – not Google) Low and behold I was right. Excellent choice. It made me wish I called my blog Fern Hill.
I started reading for the books; discovered the interesting information and insights about homeschooling, so look forward to that; and also love your sense of humor and common sense.
I use bloglines, so as soon as the new blog is ready with RSS or Atom, even tho I’m not a mom I’ll add that to my blog lists.
I came for the inspiration with regard to all of the above mentioned. I stay because I feel so welcome and well… to procrastinate some days! :0)
I found Bonny Glen due to my almost-obsession with the Little House books, and followed the link to the blog to see if it said when the next Martha book would come out. I now read it regularly for the useful tips, the amusing stories of family life… hard to pinpoint really! It’s amazing how you can come to care for someone (or even a whole family!) through a blog though isn’t it?
I enjoy the split between great links and literature recommendations and anecdotes and general thougths on homeschooling.
A sympathy and affection for all things Scottish, interesting links and your humor.
And that loom? Seriously, details, please! You know it really would add to our Scottish culture homeschool theme. (Although it might send my husband over the edge!) And I’m sure that some work on a loom could count as math.
I’ll second Becky’s comments about the warmth. Great reminder about what I want in our family life (especially when it is not all sweetness and light here). The booklists etc are also great (although frustrating – so many are unavailable in New Zealand libraries). I love the warmth, gentleness and love for your family that just shine through. Also your comments and thoughts on homeschooling. This is one of just two blogs that I visit daily.
I enjoy hearing about your daily life. I am inspired by the love and attention you lavish on your children. I also enjoy learning about homeschooling. It helps me “keep in touch”, as if we were still neighbors. I really enjoy hearing how you structure your day and how you homeschool with the younger children around, especially your 2-year old.
I’m a check-in-every-day reader, too, mostly because of the picture you paint of your homeschooling lifestyle and the humor you weave into your writing. Reading your blog always brightens my day and it frequently gives me terrific ideas for our homeschool lifestyle, especially when it comes to books. When I bring home a library book and tell my kids it was recommended by you, they know they’re likely in for a treat and react with delight.
The parts I most love, though, are when you exactly capture the essence of my long, rambly thoughts in just a few elegant words. Your post The Quiet Joy brought me to tears; your comment that the Well-Trained Mind program feels more like filling a bucket than lighting a fire precisely captures why I bought that book and use some of the ideas and resources while not following the program at all. In your blog-life, at least, you are the homeschooling mommy I’d like to be and reading your blog brings a little bit of the Bonny Glen into our lives, as well. Thank you for sharing it with us.
The books are not the reason I come to your blog, although I do glance at them. I come because you seem to have the “scoop” about things that are going on for homeschooling families. I also like the “tips” and “how-to’s”. I love when you write stories about your family and homeschooling, too.
